PLUCHARM / PROFESSIONAL BUYING GUIDE
Hair extensions can damage natural hair when an installation places excessive tension on it. Pain is a warning sign, not proof that an attachment is secure. Suitability, product weight, placement, maintenance and removal should be assessed by a trained professional.
Do not ignore pain or irritation
The American Academy of Dermatology advises that a painful hairstyle is too tight. Persistent soreness, broken hairs or thinning around areas of tension should prompt action rather than waiting for the style to settle. Contact the installer about the attachment and seek a dermatologist’s assessment for hair loss or scalp symptoms.
No method is universally damage-free
Wefts, tapes and individual attachments all need appropriate placement and load. Fine, fragile or already compromised hair may need a different approach. A small attachment, an invisible-looking base or a soft bundle does not establish suitability for a particular person.
Avoid improvised installation and removal
Do not add household adhesive, tighten attachments yourself or pull out an installed product. Tape systems, rings, sewn tracks and fusion bonds have different handling requirements. Use the instructions and professional support appropriate to the exact system.
Set expectations during consultation
Discuss the client’s natural hair, desired finish, wear routine and maintenance commitment. The installer should explain the care plan and when to return. Extensions add a cosmetic result; they do not treat hair loss or guarantee hair growth.
