Match extensions with a physical colour reference in consistent light. Compare the roots, mid-lengths and ends, then check the intended blend against the client’s hair or your approved brand sample. A screen image and a shade number alone are insufficient for final approval.

Keep the hair dry, compare it in similar lighting and avoid coloured backgrounds that change the impression of tone. Photograph the complete length as well as close-ups. Record the colour-ring reference used so the supplier and installer are discussing the same sample.
State the root shade, transition and end shade when requesting a rooted or blended product. If you use your own brand shade names, retain a mapping to the supplier reference and the approved physical sample. A familiar name should not conceal a change in the underlying product.
A tonal match alone does not guarantee a natural blend. The installer also considers length, density, texture, placement and the client’s cut. Agree the desired finish during the consultation instead of trying to correct every mismatch by colouring the extension afterward.
Include method, grade, shade, length and quantity in the same specification. Confirm whether the exact combination is ready stock or requires production. Review any proposed substitution before it is shipped.
