Ethical Sourcing and Packaging Claims: Questions for Hair Buyers

PLUCHARM / PROFESSIONAL BUYING GUIDE

Assess ethical and environmental claims through specific evidence, not broad labels. Ask what the claim covers, which part of the supply chain it concerns and what records support it. A factory photograph, a natural material or a recyclable-looking box cannot establish the whole claim.

Ask about collection and consent

Request the supplier’s explanation of collection channels and consent expectations. Distinguish a company policy from evidence for the particular supply chain. Ask which records can be shared and where traceability stops rather than assuming that an origin label establishes ethical sourcing.

Separate production claims from product claims

A facility management certificate, a product test report and an ethical-sourcing claim have different scopes. Check the named entity, issuing body, covered activity and validity. Avoid treating a certificate logo as proof for every product or manufacturing step.

Make packaging language precise

If recycled content, recyclability or reduced material use matters to your brand, request material composition and supporting documentation. Coatings, mixed materials and local collection rules affect disposal options. An AI packaging concept is a design reference, not evidence of the materials in a final order.

Use claims your brand can substantiate

Agree the evidence and wording before publishing sourcing statements or printing packaging. Do not invent environmental savings or compare extensions with unrelated services without a defined assessment. Request further documentation when the available evidence does not support the claim you want to make.
